LIZ PERLMAN

I was drawn to pottery as a hobby while raising kids and working as a school social worker.  I never thought of myself as an artist although I incorporated art into my life and career working with children as a way to help facilitate expression and wellness. When I left social work I didn't know what was next and turned back to pottery for that vary reason.

Personally, ceramics is a reflection of life and nature, you can plan and try to control it but you never know what the next day will bring.  Sometimes our biggest risks and experiments yield the best results or not…leading to reflection and change. I love the journey from an organic ball of clay that, in the end, brings joy to use everyday.

I primarily work with porcelain thrown on a wheel and make functional pottery as well as something that can be cherished. I  have a passion for altering many of my pieces by hand carving the clay when it is leather hard. Thin porcelain provides an ideal canvas for drawing and cutting a woodland forest or random pattern. Each piece is unique and reflects a journey from the earth to a vessel that is intended to bring light and joy.
