Niara Stephens is a ceramicist and painter based in Illinois. She is originally from Lithonia GA. She graduated with her Associate of Arts degree from East Georgia State College in 2020. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in Ceramics from Georgia State University in 2023. Niara makes a variety of sculptures ranging from figurative works such as busts and self-portraits to abstract sculptures with organic shapes. She often takes inspiration from art movements such as psychedelic, modern, and contemporary abstract works. She typically uses a vivid color palette of neon and pastel gradients with black as a contrast. While Stephens mainly hand-builds her sculptures she is also known to wheel-throw her forms in addition to functional pottery. Her art touches on various subjects from mental health, self-reflection, and representation of herself.
