The Midwest Clay Guild provides communal studio space and facilities for ceramic artists.
Created in 1972, it is one of the oldest cooperatives in the United States. The Guild includes functional potters and ceramic sculptors who exhibit locally, nationally, and internationally.
The Guild has a wonderful space in Skokie with the following amenities: wheel area with windows/natural light, some communal wheels and possibly space for members to bring in a personal wheel, kitchen area with fridge and microwave, plaster for clay reclaim, plaster wedging table, accessible bathroom, fully stocked glaze kitchen with many chemicals included with membership fee, some included glazes and underglaze, handbuilding tables with HardieBacker board surfaces, ball mill, large spray booth with compressor, slab roller, many ware carts for work in progress, 5 electric kilns (3 Skutts, Cone Art and Olympic test kiln) Bailey gas kiln, small converted soda kiln, two garage doors for loading in supplies, off street parking for about 5 cars, plus plentiful street parking, air conditioning and heating, wifi.
Each member gets a full bank of shelves for themselves, off shelf spots for storing clay and personal glazes. We currently have space for 16 members.
