Jan Gulley Gerdin

Chicago-based artist and graphic designer that brings light and brightness to her work and surroundings. Whether designing a porcelain vessel for daily tea drinking or crafting an ethical business’s brand, Jan aspires to be a positive force in the world. She is interested in the interactions of line, shape, and color, especially when these elements are transformed during atmospheric kiln firings. Work is soda-fired to cone 10 or wood-fired to cone 12.

Jan has a BFA from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Certificate in Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She was a student of ceramics at Lillstreet Art Center for seven years. Jan is a current member of Midwest Clay Guild and clay monitor at Stirling Hall Art Center.

Jan has exhibited her work nationally with Clay AKAR Gallery and Charlie Cummings Gallery. She is currently represented by James May Gallery in Milwaukee.

She lives with her husband and daughter in Glenview, Illinois.
